Studio - renovations all but finished

After what seemed like an age we're now just waiting to put the finishing touches to the studio.  The canvas prints we chose for the walls arrived on Friday so should be hung in the next few days. The blinds for the windows should also be here this week.  Here's a few images that Christa took of our space as it was a few days ago. (To see more images click here or on the photograph below.)

This is our portrait wall, 14' across it offers plenty of space and with all the natual light pouring in from the windows on the right offers some interesting possibilities.

We are so happy with how it looks.  We wanted a warm and inviting atmosphere and we both feel we've achieved this.  The floor in particular looks spectacular.  The feeling of the space is one of the things that attracted us to it and now it's been painted in light colours and had some love and attention lavished on it feels even better than before.  We're looking forward to welcoming clients, past, present and yet discovered into our studio.

A studio space for Isis

At the end of last year we did a lot of soul searching about how to take Isis to the next level.  We wanted to be able to expand our operations into portraits and offer our wedding clients a more conducive atmosphere to meet and discuss their needs. There was also the thought that although running our business from our home had worked well for the last few years it really was time to separate work from home. Having the office where you live really does mean that you can find yourself checking emails at all hours which isn't necessarily a good thing for your sanity or marriage. So we decided that we'd rent a space to call our own.  The only problem is finding affordable digs without having to break the bank can be tough.  That said, after a couple of false starts but eventually we found this place.

This is at the back of the Buddha building on Pine Street.  It was an art studio of some sort although there didn't appear to have been any love invested in the place.  Despite that both of us could see the potential of the place and decided that this was the future home of Isis Photography.

images captured with Richard's trusty iphone - which can get great images in the right conditions - but not so much in low light.

We set to renovating the space the 3rd week in January after we retuned from the UK.  With the help of Christa's Dad, Bob, Uncle J, Bunn Lorne Electric and the drywall wizards at Bradley's Drywall Co. we hoped to turn the space around into a fantastic studio.

Barb & Ryan's Newmarket Wedding

Last week we had the pleasure of photographing Barb and Ryan's wedding in Newmarket.  It was our first wedding of the year so it was great to get back in to shooting again after a break.  Their wedding was an intimate affair with close friends and family invited to their celebration at Madson's Greenhouse.  The Greenhouse is an amazing place to get married - especially for photographs, the light is beautifully diffused  - Barb and Ryan were married later in the day and although this meant the light could have been better we still got some pretty cool images.  To see more photographs click here or on the image below.

Ryan and Barb share a moment.

Our New Website is Live

Just a quick entry to say that our new website is live.  It's been a work in progress for the last few weeks but we're super happy with it.  Thanks to all our wonderful clients who feature on the site, there's a lot from 2009 but still a number from 2008. You can see the site here.

England

Here is a sampling of my photos from England. We did quite a bit of travelling during our time in England. These photos are from Hampton Court, Tintagel (Cornwall), Wales, Avebury and Stonehenge. Of course I had to indulge my obsession with backlit sheep and include one of those as well. Click here to see more photos.
